Human development specialist Dr Demartini discusses happiness and fulfillment.
How do you define happiness? Did your interpretation of happiness change over the years?
Dr Demartini: I prefer the term ‘fulfillment’ and not ‘happiness’. There is a reason for my choice: Fulfillment comes when one embraces both sides of life, the pros and the cons; the blessings and the challenges. It is a balanced approach to life. Most people perceive happiness as one-sided, and over time they set up unrealistic expectations in their pursuit of happiness.
You mention seven areas of life in your educational programs: financial, physical, mental, vocational, spiritual, family, and social. Do we need to experience fulfillment in all these areas,or do we have to pay more attention to specifically what we value the most, and make a success out of it?
