Herman Mashaba has come a long way from his early years spent gambling, stealing and dealing in dagga in the remote village of GaRamotse, his birthplace in Hammanskraal, about 30km north of Pretoria. It was during apartheid, one of South Africa’s darkest political times that young Herman overcame poverty, financial struggle and a hopeless destiny by becoming one of the country’s most celebrated black entrepreneurs, making history with his iconic brand Black Like Me.
